Top Dog Brewing received a $5,000 forgivable loan by the Algona Area Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) through the Algona Advantage Program.
The funds helped owner Ben Gatton expand into a new downtown location that serves locally brewed beers and other beverages, food and ice cream. The business opened at 114 E. State Street in April.
Top Dog beers were introduced to the community in 2023, when Gatton began brewing and selling his beer at the Algona Axe House. In the new location, Top Dog offers a range of locally crafted beers, as well as wine and cocktails and a food menu. Featured items on the menu include the Wurst board with an assortment of Bavarian sausages and a variety of sauces, sandwiches, soft pretzels, flatbreads and charcuterie boards.
The Algona Advantage Program was created by AAEDC in 2023 to attract new businesses to the area and promote the expansion of existing businesses that will diversify or enhance the local business economy. The Algona Advantage Program offers a forgivable loan of up to $5,000 to qualifying businesses relocating to or expanding within the City of Algona.
