Kossuth Childcare Coalition
After daycare was identified as a community need during a strategic planning session, AAEDC began a taskforce to research childcare in Kossuth County and learn more about what can be done to help expand the options available.
Retail Recruitment and Small Business Support
In August of 2023, AAEDC kicked off a campaign to recruit new retail stores to fill vacant commercial buildings in Algona’s downtown. Signs went up in open locations, supplying ideas for what the spaces could be.
Later that fall, AAEDC began offering a new program for new and expanding small businesses in Algona, to encourage continued business growth and development. The Algona Advantage Program offers up to $5,000 of forgivable loans funds to qualifying businesses. Learn more about past recipients and how to apply.
Spruce Street Development Project

Start Up Funds for Key Businesses
AAEDC helps drive positive changes in the local economy by providing loan funds to key businesses in Algona. Most recently, business loans were granted to Little Sprouts Daycare and KLGA/KLGZ Hometown Radio.
Spec Home
AAEDC created a spec home in Algona, with the design, construction and sale of the home overseen by the AAEDC board.
